The Script - Breakeven

This group from Dublin, Ireland have quite gone a long way in the industry to say the least. They’ve already released 2 massive singles which became radio favourites across the UK and Ireland. Single #1 “We Cry” settled to become a top 20 hit last May. Single #2 “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved” became their biggest yet having a top 5 hit last August with their debut album scoring a whopping #1. They’ve also reached success in Asia following their recent stint in the 2008 MTV Asia Awards in Malaysia (which is their first ever award show gig). Now, the group releases single #3 titled “Break Even” which is slowly proving to be a classic anthem.

Break Even is a pop-rock ballad which came into the likes of The Man Who Can’t Be Moved but is embedded with a much edgier beat. It’s a song with a little bit of bitterness expressed by lead singer Danny O’Donoghue. Lyrically, it’s pretty much about a guy having a self-pity about his loss with sympathetical lines “What am I suppose to do when I’m all choked up and your okay” and “I’m falling to pieces”. Infectious and proves to be an anthem for those boyfriends left by their girlfriends and vice versa. It’s a soulful, pop slash rock ballad that may prove to be The Script’s best yet. Will it have the success that “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved” had? I’m betting on a no- but still considering for a change of cards here.
